Jenkinstown Gaels remain unbeaten

Jenkinstown Gaels chalked up their 3rd league win on the Bank Holiday Monday in Moynalvey, in the tight game which had been anticipated in advance.

Jenkinstown Gaels 3-15 Skryne 2-15

The home team quickly reeled off the first 3 scores – all points. However Skyrne who had come with a reputation for playing fast open football were not cowed but stirred into action and a ding dong battle ensued for the entire first half. The teams were level at the break on a scoreline of 9 points for the Gaels, to the visitors 1-6. Neil Burke from Skryne (from the same gene pool as Cillian O’Sullivan of Jenkinstown) was a constant thorn scoring 8 points from play and was excellent throughout the match.

On the resumption the home team changed their formation with John F Martin playing the role of sweeper between the half back line and the midfielders. It worked a treat leaving plenty of space up front for the home teams forwards to exploit. They did this most notably in the first ten minutes of the second half to leave a mountain to climb for the visitors and at one stage in this quarter of the game lead by 10 points, 3-12 to 1-8. However Jenkinstown took their foot off the pedal which allowed Skyrne back into the game and were outscored by 1-7 to 0-3, in the last quarter. This was the teams stiffest test to date and but for the late fadeout the majority of the display augurs well for the season to come.

Jenkinstown Gaels: Chris O’Malley, Mark Foy, Conor Sheerin, Darragh Brannigan, Niall Kelly, Brian Harnan, Shane Whitty, Padraic Harnan 0-1, Eamonn Walsh 0-2, Paddy Connell, Cillian O Sullivan 2-4, Shaun Deering, Paul Kelly 0-4, Fearghal McCabe 0-2, David McLoughlin 1-2. Subs: JF Martin for P. Connell (inj.), Colin Farrell for S. Deering, Joe Munnelly for M Foy, Eoin Mitchell for C. Sheerin, Mickey Burke for D. McLoughlin, Sean Thomas Kiernan, Darragh Walsh, Michael O’Neill, Philip Carey, Thomas Lyons, Eoin Kiernan and Liam Farrell.
