Curraha Game 1Moynalvey’s journey to Curraha on Saturday evening saw them pick up their second win of the J.M Food Services Div. 2 League with a three point win over the home side.

Curraha 1-07
Moynalvey 1-10

The unpredictable nature of Div. 2 results saw second from bottom side Moynalvey follow up their draw with Oldcastle in the previous round with a three point win over second from top side Curraha in this round nine tie who were without the services of talismen Diarmuid & Conor Moriarty for this encounter.

The win for Caoimhin King’s men should have been more comfortable than the full time score suggests with wayward Moynalvey shooting seeing their wide tally in double figures and James McEntee converting a late penalty in the 60th minute for the home side to reduce the full time difference between the sides.

Nothing separated the sides in a low scoring first half until a brilliantly finished Michael Brady goal on the stroke of half time gave Moynalvey a three point lead at the break, 1-3 to 0-3.

It was the visitors who were first to register with a David McLoughlin free in the second minute.
The next score didn’t come until the 10th minute when David Coyle pointed for Curraha’s first score.

It was the turn of Gavin Coyle to point four minutes later to give Curraha the lead for the first time, before Craig Gilsenan replied with the first of his three points to level matters, two points apiece with 17 minutes played.

The first real clear cut goal opportunity fell the way of Vinny Walsh but he was denied by an excellent save by Liam Hogan in the Curraha goals.

Curraha regained the lead again in the 25th minute, this time from a James McEntee free, but again Moynalvey responded with the unlikely source of corner back Charlie McCormack to level matters for a third time, 0-3 to 0-3.

The final score of the game raised the game’s first green flag when Brady’s brilliant strike low to Liam Hogan’s left giving Moynalvey that three point half time advantage, 1-3 to 0-3.

Half Time Score:
Curraha 0-3
Moynalvey 1-3

Within thirty seconds of the restart a second Craig Gilsenan point extending Moynalvey’s lead out to four, but Curraha replied with a brace from Niall Murphy and Ronan Flynn to leave two between the sides, 1-4 to 0-7, seven minutes into the second half.

Moynalvey points from Barry Walsh and Craig Gilsenan restored Moynalvey’s four point lead, but again Curraha responded with a pair of points from Seamus Hogan and James McEntee to leave the two the margin between the sides again at the three quarter hour mark, 1-6 to 0-7.

Three Moynalvey points without reply from David Mcloughlin, Barry Walsh and Padraic Harnan looked to be sending Moynalvey on their way to a five point win. However, there was still time for a nervy finish when James McEntee dispatched a penalty to the net despite the best efforts of Ray Ryan in the Moynalvey goals, leaving it 1-9 to 1-7 on the sixty minute mark.

A David McLoughlin free in the 61st minute secured a well deserved three point win for the men in maroon.2022 David Reilly v Curraha removebg preview
