Moynalvey U 15 Panel prior to U 15 Div. 4 League Final 1A much stronger Slane outfit had too much in hand over Moynalvey in the Final of the U-15 Div. 4 League in Páirc Tailteann on Sunday afternoon July 7th.

Moynalvey 3-07
Slane 6-10

Bar the first five minutes of the second half a dominant and physically stronger Slane side who wouldn’t look out of place a division higher put in a powerful sixty minute performance to claim claim Div. 4 league honours with style.

Moynalvey had qualified for the final by virtue of taking second place in the Div. 4 table behind Slane having lost just one game in the group stage, that being to the same opposition in the first round whereby Slane had eight points to spare over Moynalvey, today it was a slighter greater margin, twelve in the end.

From start to finish it was the village site who led comfortably throughout, racing into a 1-1 to no score lead within three minutes.

Scott Williams registered Moynalvey’s first score from a free in the 4th minute, but by the time Moynalvey were to register their next scores, Slane had a commanding 2-4 to 0-3 lead built up after twenty one minutes, Moynalvey’s brace of points coming from wing forward Cathal Byrne and midfielder Evan Lawless.

Slane went on to outscore Moynalvey 1-3 to 0-1 over the remainder of the half, with Moynalvey’s sole other first half score coming from another Scott Williams free to leave the half time score board read 3-07 to 0-4 in favour of the Slane men.

Half Time Score:
Moynalvey 0-4
Slane 3-07

As you’d expect there was a reaction from Moynalvey after the break, whereby they registered a quickfire 1-2 within two minutes of the restart, the goal coming from Padraig Deegan and points from Turlough Purcell and Frankie Gilsenan.

Moynalvey’s purple patch was short lived however and over the next twelve minutes, Slane outscored the men in maroon 3-3 to 0-1 with man of the match and top scorer Conor Duffy particularly prominent as he had been throughout tormenting the Moynalvey defence with his silky skills.

Two late Scott Williams goals, the first from the penalty spot and the second an opportunely  taken quick free were mere consolation for the Moynalvey lads as Slane ran out deserving comfortable twelve point winners on a full time score of 6-10 to 3-07.

Best for Moynalvey were Dean Heapes who pulled off a number of good saves throughout, Jack Dunne, Evan Lawless, Scott Williams, Cathal Byrne at wing forward and Frankie Gilsenan.

Comiserations to the Moynalvey lads, great to get to the final and nice to get a run out in the pristine surface of Páirc Tailteann; and Congratulations to Slane.
