U-21's exit the championship

An injury depleted Moynalvey side made a tame exit from the U-21 ‘B’ Football Championship when going down to a Dunderry outfit on a 2-12 to 0-6 score line at Simonstown on Friday night November 4th.

Dunderry 2-12 Moynalvey 0-6

Moynalvey fielding without a number of regulars, including a county U-21 player and two county minors struggled to make an impact right from the start of this game. From the offset it was Dunderry who looked to be in control of matters, building up a 1-2 to 0-0 lead after 17 minutes of play. James Kelly opened Moynalvey’s account with a converted free in the 19th minute, however this proved to be Moynalvey’s only score of the opening period as Dunderry tagged on  two more points before the break to increase their advantage to six points on a 1-4 to 0-1 score line at the interval.

Two minutes into the second period Dunderry added to their advantage when they registered their 5th point of the evening. A brace of Moynalvey points courtesy of Anthony Forde and William Harnan in the 35th and 37th minutes respectively brought the deficit back to five points. Kelly pointed his second free of the evening in the 12th minute in response to a Dunderry effort. Any slim hopes of a Moynalvey revival were dashed as Dunderry upped a gear again and scored 1-5 without reply in an eight minute period. Two Cathal McCabe points in the final 10 minutes were simply consolation scores for Moynalvey as Dunderry ran out deserving 12 point winners.

Moynalvey: C. O’Malley, S. Carroll, S. Browne, C. Egan, A. Forde (0-1), C. McCabe (0-2), W. Harnan (0-1), W. Mahady, M. Munnelly, L. Duffy, P. Kelly, J. Kelly (0-2). S. McGann. Subs: S. Burke for McGann, F. Cunningham for Munnelly, B. Regan for P. Kelly, D. Hoban for Egan.
