Moynalvey lost out to St. Peters Dunboyne on a 4-4 to 1-5 score line in a third round clash of Division 1 of the Minor Football Championship at rain soaked Dunganny on Friday evening September 30th.

Moynalvey 1-5 St. Peters Dunboyne 4-4

Both teams found it difficult to register scores in the difficult conditions during the opening 10 minutes. The first score of the game was a Dunboyne goal in the 11th minute, while the second score also went to the team in black and yellow when they found the net for a second time five minutes later. Moynalvey found themselves seven points down in the 19th minute, before James Kelly sent over from play to eventually open their account in the 20th minute. St. Peters restored their seven point advantage in the 24th minute which they maintained until the half time whistle. Moynalvey were somewhat fortunate not to be further adrift at the break as their opponents also sent a penalty kick wide during the opening period.

A rejuvenated Moynalvey took to the field after the break hitting 1-3 without reply during the third quarter of the game. James Kelly pointed from a free three minutes after the interval, Cillian O’Sullivan goaled in the 39th minute after fielding a Conor Egan ’45 which dropped short, Kelly converted another free two minutes later and Fearghal McCabe pointed in the 44th minute. Despite narrowing the deficit to 0-2, Moynalvey’s comeback suffered a setback mid way through the half when Dunboyne raised their third green flag of the evening. Moynalvey’s final score of the match came in the 49th minute when Kelly converted his third free of the evening. Dunboyne added a further 1-1 over the remaining period to run out comfortable eight point winners on a 4-4 to 1-5 score line.
