A gallant Moynalvey side went down by the narrowest of margins to a penalty with the last kick of the game in Kilmore Park, Moynalvey last night, Monday 20th, in the Minor Div 2 football league against Duleek-Bellewstown. The home side were short a number of players due to holidays and injury and the visitors sportingly agreed to a 13-aside game.

A gallant Moynalvey side went down by the narrowest of margins to a penalty with the last kick of the game in Kilmore Park, Moynalvey last night in the Minor Div 2 football league against Duleek-Bellewstown. The home side were short a number of players due to holidays and injury and the visitors sportingly agreed to a 13-aside game.
Moynalvey started best with early points from Padraig Harnan, David Reilly and Darren Brennan with two. The east Meath side responded in kind in what was an entertaining game. Then Moynalvey put together a superb move with James Kelly finishing a six pass move to the net following superb work from Brennan and Harnan. Further points from Kelly and Sean Burke extended their lead before Duleek-Bellewstown responded with a goal of their own. With the half almost up James Kelly again worked a goal chance and finished superbly. This left Moynalvey leading 2-6 to 1-7 at the break.
The second half continued in end to end fashion with Moynalvey registering points from Cathal McCabe and Padraig Harnan and unsurprisingly another two goals from James Kelly after being put through by Harnan and Darren Brennan. Duleek Bellewstown fought back to lead by a point with 2 goals and time almost up. However typical of the game Moynalvey seemed to have it won with three points on the trot from James Kelly twice and David Reilly with a huge score. The drama wasn't finished though and Duleek-Bellewstown were awarded a penalty in injury time that was excellently converted with what proved to be the last kick of the game.
This was an excellent team display by a young Moynalvey side but special mention must go to James Kelly who contributed 4-3 of their total, all of which came from play.
