Comfortable win for Gaeil Colmcille in Feis Cup Round 3

E-mail Print PDF

Extended Feis C v KellsGaeil Colmcille had a comfortable win over Moynalvey in round three of the Feis cup at Grangegodden on Wednesday evening 23rd June.

Gaeil Colmcile 1-18
Moynalvey 0-9

In a clash of two sides both with two wins from two going into this game it was the home side who maintained their 100% record.

Gaeil Colmcille started brightly leading 0-4 to 0-1 after 11 minutes with all four Kells scores coming from Seamus Mattimoe, while Moynalvey’s opening score came from a converted Shane Lenehan mark.

A second converted Moynalvey mark this time from Ciaran Harnan, followed by an Oisin Reilly point for Gaeil Colmcille left it 0-5 to 0-2 at the first water break.

Three Kells’ points in a row were answered by two David McLoughlin points in the 21st and 23rd minutes, the first a goal chance which was deflected over for a point and the second a free leaving it 0-7 to 0-4.

Then came the game’s only goal in the 24th minute when Seamus Mattimoe was left with the simple task of palming over Moynalvey ‘keeper Chris O’Malley making it 1-7 to 0-4.

Gaeil Colmcille added three further points from Mattimoe (2) and James Reilly, leaving the half time score 1-10 to 0-4.

But for a few fantastic saves from Moynalvey goal-keeper Chris O’Malley the margin would have been greater. The concession of 1-3 without reply in the six minutes before the break left Moynalvey with a mountain to climb in the second period.

With a comfortable lead at the break last year’s SFC runners-up outscored Moynalvey 0-8 to 0-5 in the second half, Mattimoe rounding off a personal tally of 1-11 with Moynalvey’s second half scores coming from Adam Murphy (3), Shane Lenehan and David McLoughlin, leaving the full-time score 1-18 to 0-9 in favour of the town side.

Here’s hoping the meeting of the two sides in Group C of the SFC later in the year is a less one-sided affair.

Lar Wall’s side maintain their 100% record heading into their fourth-round tie against Summerhill, while Moynalvey will look to pick up the pieces with a home game against Donaghmore/Ashbourne next week.
