Castletown pick up valuable league points

Moynalvey’s long journey to Castletown proved to be in vein as the host side ran out 10 point winners on a 2-16 to 2-6 score line in this Div. 2 A League round 6 tie played on Wednesday evening May 13th.

Castletown 2-16 Moynalvey 2-6

With both sides languishing close to the bottom of the Division 2 league table it was the North Meath side who claimed the badly needed two points on offer in a comfortable 10 point route over their Senior opponents. It was Castletown’s second win from six outings, while Moynalvey remain with one win and a draw from as many games.

A superb first half showing from the home side registering 2-7 to Moynalvey’s solitary 1st half point from James O’Neill handed Castletown a commanding 12 point halftime lead on a 2-7 to 0-1 score line.

Immediately after the restart a David McLoughlin point and a goal from John Donoghue gave Moynalvey some glimmer of hope, however a brace of points one apiece for the Castletown midfield pairing ensured a 10 point margin remained between the sides on the three quarter hour mark. Ten points also separated the sides at the full time whistle as the home side hit a further 0-7, while Moynalvey scored a further 1-4. Moynalvey’s scores in the final quarter came from James O’Neilll, 0-3 from David McLoughlin, while the goal came from substitute James Kelly after some superb high fielding from William Harnan in the build up.

Moynalvey: Ray Ryan, Darragh Branigan, Darren Brennan, Shane Browne, David Donoghue, Eamonn Walsh, Robbie Kiernan, Donal smith, Stephen Donoghue, James O’Neill (0-2), John Donoghue (1-0), Shane Lenehan, David McLoughlin (0-4, 2f), William Harnan, Ciaran Ennis.
