Moynalvey and Dunboyne inseparable in round 4

Moynalvey and St. Peters Dunboyne had to settle for a share of the spoils in this round four game of the Husqvarna Centre P.R Coyne Div. 1 football league played in Dunboyne on Saturday evening 18th April.

St. Peters Dunboyne 2-11
Moynalvey 2-11

Both sides picked up their second draw of the league, with both sides other draw coming against Trim.

It was Moynalvey who opened the scoring with a Padraic Harnan point in the second minute, St. Peters opening their account three minutes later through Dan Hickey.

The game’s opening goal arrived in the 12th minute when a Cillian O’Sullivan point attempt came back off the upright into the waiting arms of Barry Walsh who made no mistake firing past James Dillon in the Dunboyne nets from close range.

Sixty seconds later James Kelly added a point to leave the score board read 1-2 to 0-1 in favour of the visitors with thirteen minutes played.

The next two scores went the way of the home side, the first a Niall Jones goal after he latched onto a breaking ball to finish from close range leaving Conor Egan with no chance in the Moynalvey goals and the second score a Shane McEntee point to draw the sides level, 1-2 apiece with 24 minutes gone.

Moynalvey’s advantage was restored a minute later when Cillian O’Sullivan lofted over a two pointer, but the advantage was short lived as points from the Lowndes brothers Eric and Craig left it draw match once again, 1-4 apiece with 29 minutes on the clock.

A Vinny Walsh free in the 31st minute gave Moynalvey a one point advantage before the teams retreated to the dressing rooms for the half time break, 1-5 to 1-4.

Half Time Score:
St. Peters Dunboyne 1-4
Moynalvey 1-5

The third quarter belonged to Moynalvey as their advantage was extended to a seven point lead with 1-3 without reply, the points coming from Barry Walsh, Cillian O’Sullivan and Adam Murphy and the goal from Vinny Walsh who fisted to the net after Craig Gilsenan had squared across goal providing the assist, 2-8 to 1-4 twelve minutes into the second half.

If the third quarter belonged to Moynalvey, the final quarter largely belonged to Dunboyne, bolstered by the introduction of county man Ronan Jones Dunboyne began to dominate the middle third laying the platform for them to reel in that seven point deficit to take the lead 2-9 to 2-8 with seven minutes remaining.

Points from the O’Sullivan brothers Cillian and Hugh put Moynalvey in front again, but Dunboyne regained the lead and what looked like the winning scores with a brace of their own to lead 2-11 to 2-10 five minutes into added time.

There was still time for late drama as a quick free caught St. Peters off guard for Moynalvey to work the ball to Vinny Walsh who fisted over for the equalizing point in the 6th minute of added time leaving it a draw match, 2-11 to 2-11, when referee Patrick Clarke blew for full time.

Best for Moynalvey were Barry Walsh, Charlie McCormack, Craig Gilsenan, Hugh O’Sullivan and Vinny Walsh.
