Moynalvey suffered a ten point defeat at the hands of visiting Walterstown in Division 2 of the B League at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Monday evening June 25th.
Moynalvey 0-11 Walterstown 2-15
Despite opening the scoring through James Weldon in the second minute the home side found themselves 0-4 to 0-1 in arrears after 15 minutes. However a Moynalvey purple patch of three points in as many minutes from Ciaran Ennis, James Weldon and Ray Ryan saw them draw within a point of their opponents who had added a further point to their tally courtesy of centre forward Aaron McLoughlin. Just as Moynalvey had narrowed the deficit the Blacks pounced for their opening goal in the 21st minute and a Ronan Barry effort a minute later left them five points to the good. Moynalvey rallied once again and a trio of points from corner forward Ray Ryan left just two between the sides. The crucial second goal for Walterstown arrived just before the interval when McLoughlin forged through the centre of the Moynalvey defence leaving goalie Conor Egan with little chance putting Walterstown five points to the good at the break, 2-6 to 0-7.
Upon the restart Walterstown built pushed their advantage to double scores, 2-8 to 0-7 after 2 minutes of the second half. The Blacks limited Moynalvey to just four points in the second period while landing a further 0-7 to their tally, with Moynalvey’s second half scores coming from Ryan (2), Alan Donnelly and Ger Fagan, leaving Walterstown topping the Division 2 table after this 10 point victory.
