Visitors Walterstown had two points to spare over Moynalvey in Round 2 of the Div. 3 Premier Football Championship on Saturday evening 17th July.

With Walterstown arriving with only 14 players, the game was played 14-a-side.
It was Moynalvey who were on the score board first with a David Donoghue point almost from the throw in, followed by a Paul Corcoran point in the 2nd minute.
Walterstown opened their account in the 11th minute with a David Maguire point. Moynalvey points from James Weldon and Darren Brennan either side of a Conor Lenehan point for the Blacks left it 0-4 to 0-2 at the first water break.
Points from Walterstown’s Adam Treanor and Alban Crosbie either side of a James Weldon point for the home side left the score board read five points apiece at the much needed additional water break which were agreed on by all parties considering the sweltering heat.
Walterstown outscored Moynalvey 1-4 to 0-1 in the second quarter of the game with Conor O’Sullivan scoring 1-2 of that within a three minute period. The Blacks’ other two points came from Ben Ryan and Stephen Davis with Moynalvey’s point coming from Andrew Jackson, leaving the half time score 1-9 to 0-6.
A brilliantly struck point off the outside off the boot from near the sideline by James Weldon soon after the break was followed by a Stephen Davis free for Walterstown leaving five between the sides again.
Then came Moynalvey’s first goal, Darren Brennan sent a long ball in to substitute Ciaran Harnan who fired to the back of Ciaran Lydon’s net reducing the deficit to three, 1-10 to 1-7.
The sides traded points with Moynalvey’s effort coming from another substitute Sean Duggan to leave the scores 1-11 to 1-8 at another water break.
A pair of Walterstown points were countered by three James Weldon points for the home side reducing the margin between the sides to two points, 1-13 to 1-11.
Conor O’Sullivan added to his tally before a penalty was awarded to Moynalvey which James Weldon calmly slotted home to bring the sides level with five minutes remaining, 2-11 to 1-14.
Walterstown added two further points for a deserved win to maintain their unbeaten start to the Div. 3 Premier Championship following their opening round draw against Duleek/Bellewstown.
Next up for Moynalvey second team is an away trip to St. Mary’s.
