A storming second half display by Moynalvey paved the way for a resounding success over Meath Hill in the Under 21 championship quarter final held last Saturday at Bective.
Moynalvey 5 – 10 Meath Hill 1 – 5
The first half was a very tight affair with a Philip Garvey goal just before the break meaning a lacklustre Moynalvey were fortunate to lead by 2 – 3 to 0 – 4 at half time, James Weldon having scored the first goal.
However, inspirational words at the break from coach Stephen Donoghue lead to a revitalised Moynalvey side taking to the field for the second half. All players upped their performance and caused havoc running at the Meath Hill defence.
Tormentor in chief was Philip Garvey who scored 1 – 5 from play whilst James Weldon contributed 2 – 2. Further second half goals from the tireless William Mahady and Simon Courtney meant Moynalvey ran out comfortable winners in the end. Goalkeeper Brian Reilly also made a big impact by superbly saving a second half penalty.
Best for the maroon and whites in an excellent team performance were Anthony Brien, Anthony Donnelly, Padraig Donoghue, Mahady and Garvey.

* Moynalvey’s opponents in the semi final are as of yet unknown after Moylagh and Bective drew 0 – 13 to 4 – 1 in the other quarter final on Saturday. That replay is scheduled to take place next Saturday so the likelihood is the semi final will be the following weekend.
