Moynalvey under 21’s advanced to the championship semi final after securing a comfortable 8 point victory over Donaghmore/Ashbourne in this quarter final played in Batterstown on Saturday, November 1st.
Moynalvey 1 – 12 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0 – 7
Moynalvey lost to this same team after extra time in the first round of last year’s under 21 competition but made no mistake this time round. Moynalvey raced into a 0 – 5 to no score lead courtesy of points from Phillip Garvey, Feidhlim Cunningham, Luke Duffy, Peter Durnin and Ray Ryan. A further 2 points from Cunningham meant Moynalvey led by 0 – 7 to 0 -3 at the interval.
Donaghmore Ashbourne came more into the game in the second half but points from Garvey, Mark O’Sullivan (2), Cunningham and Donal Smith meant Moynalvey led by 0 – 12 to 0 – 7 with 5 minutes to go. A Ray Ryan goal in the last few minutes secured an 8 point victory and with it progess to the semi final.
Best for Moynalvey were William Mahady, captain David Donoghue, Ray Ryan and Phillip Garvey.
