Moynalvey’s under 21 side kept the club’s recent good run of form going by defeating a brave Clonard side by 10 points in this semi final game played in Dunganny on Tuesday, November 11th, thus qualifying for a championship final meeting with Clann na Gael.
Moynalvey 3 – 12 Clonard 2 – 5
Clonard opened the scoring in the first minute before Moynalvey drew level from a Feidhlim Cunningham free. Clonard then goaled to push 1 – 1 to 0 – 1 clear after 5 minutes but this was Moynalvey’s cue to go on and dominate the remainder of the half. During this period the men in maroon posted 1 – 7 without reply to lead by 1 – 8 to 1 – 1 at the interval. Ray Ryan goaled following a quick Cunningham sideline whilst the points came from Ryan, Cunningham (4 frees), Paul Garvey and James Weldon. Peter Durnin was also unlucky to see his goalbound effort crash back off the the post as Moynalvey dominated.
Any hope of a Clonard comeback faded within 30 seconds of the restart as James Weldon sliced through the middle of their defence to goal and push Moynalvey 10 points clear. Clonard, to their credit, battled on bravely and the remainder of the game saw both sides post 1 – 4 each, Moynalvey’s scores coming from Phillip Garvey (0 – 1), Paul Garvey (0 – 1), Ray Ryan (0 – 1 free) and Mark O’Sullivan (1 – 1).
Moynalvey will now play a very good Clann na Gael side in the final this Saturday in Dunderry at 2pm.
