Moynalvey’s 2020 SFC ended with a disappointing loss to Wolfe Tones at Skryne on Friday evening August 28th.
Moynalvey 0-15
Wolfe Tones 5-9
Despite the game meaning nothing to each side regarding qualification to the knockout stages or relegation, it was Wolfe Tones who took the two points on offer to finish second in the group A table.
Having been involved in a nine goal thriller against Curraha in round two there were no shortage of goals in this game either, unfortunately for Moynalvey all five were for Wolfe Tones.
By the time the first water break came strangely Wolfe Tones only had one point on the score board, but they also had four goals alongside it, leading 4-1 to 0-7 after 17 minutes.
Moynalvey centre back Darren Brennan opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, with Wolfe Tones’ first score coming a minute later when Thomas O’Reilly fisted to the Moynalvey net.
The sides’ were level for the only time in the 6th minute following Moynalvey points from David McLoughlin and Sean Duggan.
2-1 from Tones, the first goal a rocket from Cian Ward leaving Moynalvey ‘keeper Ray Ryan with no chance and 1-1 from Thomas O’Reilly, with Moynalvey responding with a Stephen Donoghue point left the score 3-1 to 0-4 at the first water break.
Following the restart the next score was Tones’ fourth goal, the scrappiest of their five goals finished to the net by Cian Ward for his second of the game.
Cillian O’Sullivan and David McLoughlin added points for Moynalvey before the half time whistle which saw the score board read 4-1 to 0-7 at the break.
Points from David McLoughlin and Mark O’Sullivan within six minutes of the restart had the deficit back to four points, however this was as close as Moynalvey got to their opponents.
Wolfe Tones rattled off 1-7, with four points from Sarán Ó Fionnagáin, one for Fiachra Ward and 1-1 for Thomas O’Reilly, with Moynalvey responding with two David McLoughlin points leaving Tones 5-9 to 0-11 to the good with 57 minutes played.
Four late Moynalvey points from substitute James Kelly, Adam Murphy, David McLoughlin and Cillian O’Sullivan left the full time score 5-9 to 0-15.
