The passing of one of Moynalvey GFC’s honorary club presidents Eddie Kelly last Sunday evening has caused widespread shock and sadness in the parishes of Moynalvey and Kiltale.
Soon after watching his beloved Moynalvey draw with Na Fianna in the Meath Senior Football Championship at Kildalkey last Sunday evening Eddie suddenly took ill after the excitement of the game’s final ten minutes and passed away a short time later.
A fine footballer and hurler in his youth, Eddie was a pivotal club member in the running of Moynalvey Hurling and Football teams throughout the years, holding the position of honorary club president at the time of his death. At one stage Eddie’s field adjacent his house served as Moynalvey’s pitch.
Eddie was a staunch supporter of Moynalvey GFC & Kiltale Hurling Clubs, always to be seen at each club’s games no matter where the venue and in more recent years was also to be seen at Summerhill games watching grandsons Eamonn & Kevin Ryan play. Prior to Eddie’s sudden passing we’re sure he would have been looking forward to the clash of Moynalvey and Summerhill in the last round of the Championship.
Apart from his local GAA clubs one of Eddie’s other great loves was Meath GAA, an avid supporter of all Meath GAA teams as are his four daughters Eileen, Mary, Alice and Kathleen who is the current secretary of Moynalvey GFC.
Our sympathies go to wife Maura, the four girls and all Eddie’s extended family and friends from all at Moynalvey GFC.
A true Gael who will never be forgotten!!
May he Rest in Peace.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis!!
