Moynalvey slumped to their fifth A league defeat in seven outings when losing out to visitors St. Patricks on a 1-14 to 0-12 score line at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Thursday evening 27th April.
Moynalvey 0-12 St. Patricks 1-14
Five days after losing out to neighbours Blackhall Gaels, Moynalvey lost their second A league game in quick succession and now see themselves edging closer to the bottom of the Div. 1 A League Table, with two more tough games on the horizon over the next 10 days against Navan O’Mahony’s and St. Peter’s Dunboyne.
Having trailed their opponents by two points at the break, 1-7 to 0-8, Moynalvey would have to wait until the 18th minute of the second half to record their first score of that second period. In this time St. Pats had extended their lead from two to five points, 1-11 to 0-9. Moynalvey failed to close this five point deficit and both sides closed out the game with three points apiece, Moynalvey’s scores coming from John Donoghue and substitutes Shaun Deering & Stephen Donoghue.
The sides were level 0-2 apiece after seven minutes, with a brace from Moynalvey’s James O’Neill, one from play and the other a free, with St. Patricks responding with scores from Darren Hagan & Neil O’Flaherty. Moynalvey hit three points in a row, one from O’Neill and two from David McLoughlin, the 1st off the right and the second a superb score off the left, leaving the score 0-5 to 0-2 after 14 minutes.
A free from Shane Landy was followed two minutes later with the game’s only goal, handing the Stamullen men the lead for the second time, one they held right until the full time whistle. Moynalvey’s Fearghal McCabe replied to the set back with a point, with Pats replying with a score of their own within seconds leaving it 1-5 to 0-6 after 24 minutes. Both sides added a further two points before the half time whistle, Moynalvey’s points coming from a close range David McLouhghin free and midfielder John Donoghue.
Despite a final quarter rally, Moynalvey found themselves outplayed and out possessed for long periods of that second half, with Pats securing the five point win for their fourth win of the campaign. Things don’t get any easier for Moynalvey as they welcome Navan O’Mahony’s to Kilmore Park in round 8 next Thursday 4th May.
