Moynalvey picked up their second win from as many outings in the PMC Physiotherapy sponsored Division 9 Football League with this six point victory over Longwood at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Easter Bank Holiday Monday evening.
Moynalvey 3-10
Longwood 2-7
The win sees Moynalvey move top of the division 9 table with a trip to bottom of the table side Dunsany on the horizon next Monday evening.
The score line read two points apiece after five minutes with Ray Ryan and Stephen Cummins accounting for Moynalvey’s brace and Longwood’s pair of points coming from Laoghaire Connolly and Sean Sheridan.
Longwood struck for the first of the game’s five goals in the 13th minute; with the next two scores going the way of Moynalvey’s Ray Ryan fisting over from close range from a John Donoghue point attempt followed by a William Harnan point to leave the minimum between the sides, 0-4 to 1-2 with twenty minutes played.
Harnan then accounted for Moynalvey’s first goal after being laid on for the finish by Stephen Donoghue, followed up by an Eoin Corrigan point to leave the home side three points to the good with twenty one minutes gone, 1-5 to 1-2.
Longwood points from Laoghaire Connolly and Sean Sheridan reduced the deficit to the minimum before Moynalvey added the final two scores of the half, a Donal Smith fisted point and a brilliantly finished Eoin Corrigan goal leaving the half time score 2-6 to 1-4 in favour of the home side.
Two minutes after the restart Longwood narrowed the half time deficit back to two points with an Adrian Maguire goal, 2-6 to 2-4.
Moynalvey responded with points from substitute Alan Donnelly after quick handling from Stephen Donoghue and William Harnan in the build up, followed up by a point by corner back Cillian Kelly after a soaring run forward after winning a turnover in midfield to extend Moynalvey’s lead back out to four points, 2-8 to 2-4.
Longwood added a point from Adrain Maguire, but the next three scores went the way of Moynalvey, points from Ray Ryan and William Harnan followed by a Conor Quinn goal after he had laid on Aidan Gilsenan for the fist to the net, only for Quinn to have the final touch ensuring the ball made its way to the net, making it 3-10 to 2-5 at the three quarter hour mark.
Although Moynalvey failed to score again for the remaining 15 minutes, that 1-2 without reply left the margin too great for Longwood to reel in and two late points from Laoghaire Connolly and a sweetly struck ’45 meant the full time score finished 3-10 to 2-7 in favour of Moynalvey.
Best for the winners were Cillian Kelly, David Durkan, Stephen Donoghue, Eoin Corrigan, Donal Smith, William Harnan and substitute Alan Donnelly.
