Moynalvey recorded their second win from as many outings in Group A of the John Collins sponsored Junior C Football Championship when overcoming Castletown by five points in a rain drenched Walterstown on Saturday evening July 10th.
Moynalvey 1-12 Castletown 1-7
Although conditions were the same for both sides it was Moynalvey who adopted to the slippy underfoot conditions quicker as they led by 0-5 to 0-1 midway through the opening period with scores from P.J Walsh, Ciaran Collins, Brian Conneely and Ciaran Ennis (2). Castletown’s second score came from a free in the 20th minute, before a quick sideline ball by Sean Burke resulted in Ciaran Collins finding Ger McHale who sent the ball over the bar, restoring Moynalvey’s four point advantage. Castletown had the deficit narrowed to two points in the 25th minute, before Ciaran Ennis hit a purple patch registering three points on the spin in the remaining three minutes of the half, leaving the half time score reading 0-9 to 0-4 in favour of Moynalvey.
Following the interval Moynalvey increased their lead to six points when Alan Donnelly slotted over. Two more Castletown points had the deficit reduced to four points once again, before frees from John Donoghue and Ciaran Ennis had Moynalvey ahead by double scores, 0-12 to 0-6 in the 15th minute of the half. Castletown pointed in the 18th minute and seven minutes later had the margin narrowed to two, after a penalty kick awarded for a foot block was converted. However Moynalvey killed the game off in the final minute when full forward Ciaran Collins fired an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Castletown net to seal a five point victory for the South Meath outfit. Moynalvey’s best performances came from Anthony Forde, Robbie Quinlan and top scorer Ciaran Ennis.
