Moynalvey’s long journey up to Moylagh, with many supporters dashing from the Moynalvey men’s IFC game in Páirc Tailteann proved to be a disappointing trip, having led by five points with seven minutes remaining, two late Moylagh goals saw the visitors undone by a single point.
Little separated the sides for the mots part of this game, with the lead yo yo’ing from side to side until Moynalvey found that piece of daylight with a Louise Donoghue goal midway through the second half.
Moynalvey were first to trouble the score keepers with Jennifer McLoughlin opening the game’s scoring in the third minute. Moylagh then reeled off three points without reply to lead 0-3 to 0-1 with eight minutes played.
Stephanie Walsh pointed for the visitors in the 11th minute and three minutes later a converted free for the home side made it a double scores game, 0-4 to 0-2.
A pair of Moynalvey points, a free from Jennifer McLoughlin and a Siobhain Kelly point had the sides level for a second time, four points apiece with twenty two minutes gone.
Moylagh retook the lead with a point before points from Louise Donoghue and Ciara Mallee gave Moynalvey a one point half time advantage, 0-6 to 0-5.

The side’s continued to trade points in the third quarter, three from Moylagh and Moynalvey points from Roisin Murphy and Siobhain Kelly leaving it tied eight points apiece twelve minutes into the second half.
Then came the game’s first goal, a bullet of a shot from Louise Donoghue which looked like a point attempt, rocketed it’s way to the roof of the Moylagh goal to leave the score board read 1-8 to 0-8 in favour of the girls in maroon midway through the second half.
A pair of Jennifer McLoughlin points, one from play and one from a free gave Moynalvey a five point advantage with seven minutes remaining, 1-10 to 0-8.
However, instead of seeing out the game, disaster struck for Moynalvey as two goals for the home side within as many minutes saw them take a one point lead with three minutes remaining, 2-8 to 1-10.
Despite plenty of possession in the final few minutes, Moynalvey could not convert it to scores and Moylagh held on for the one point win on a full time score of 2-8 to 1-10.
Finalists of the last two years, with a round three game against Trim to come, Moynalvey now look in relegation trouble rather than progression to the knockout stages of the championship this year.
