Moynalvey suffered their second successive defeat in the 2013 Hoganstand.com Meath Senior Football Championship at Trim on Thursday evening April 25th when going down to Seneschalstown on a 0-16 to 0-11 score line.

Moynalvey 0-11 Seneschalstown0-16

Having lost out to the same opponents in a Junior ‘B’ Championship clash last Sunday evening, this was the second time Moynalvey went down to the Seneschalstown club in the space of five days.

The first half of this contest was a hugely one sided affair, as Seneschalstown led 0-12 to 0-3 at the break. Seneschalstown opened the scoring after only 40 seconds when centre forward Damien Sheridan sent over. Two minutes later their lead was doubled when Peter Waters fired over. Moynalvey opened their account in the 5th minute when Mark O’Sullivan converted a free kick after he had been fouled. Sixty seconds later a second O’Sullivan free, this time after Padraic Harnan was fouled, left the sides level 0-2 apiece. Seneschalstown then hit 0-5 without reply between the 9th and 17th minutes; before a third O’Sullivan free for Moynalvey left the score board reading 0-7 to 0-3 after 20 minutes of play. Moynalvey failed to trouble the score board for the remainder of the half and Seneschalstown fired over another 0-5 in a row, leaving the half time score reading 0-12 to 0-3. Moynalvey were unlucky not to have been closer to their opponents at the break, as a rasping shot at goal from Ken Hyland rebounded off the cross bar two minutes before the half time whistle.

Having realised they were not playing to their full potential in the opening period; a rejuvenated Moynalvey side took to the field for the second half. Numerous positional switches and the introduction of half time substitutes Donal Smith and Brian Harnan gave Moynalvey a stronger foothold around the midfield and half back line. Barry O’Keeffe now operating in the forward line started the Moynalvey revival when he pointed from an acute angle three minutes after the restart. A Ciaran Ennis ’45 and a Mark O’Sullivan free left 0-7 between the sides after 38 minutes. Two minutes later another Moynalvey goal chance was spurned when Padraic Harnan’s effort went wide of the posts. O’Sullivan and Damien Sheridan traded scores, before a hat trick of points from O’Sullivan left only 0-4 between the sides, 0-14 to 0-10 with 10 minutes remaining. A superb free from county player Joe Sheridan steadied the ship for Seneschalstown, before they tagged on another score, with Moynalvey’s John Donoghue sending over a consolation point in the final minute.

Best for Moynalvey were Paul Weldon, Padraic Harnan, John Donoghue, David Donoghue, Mark O’Sullivan and Brian Harnan.
