Moynalvey suffered their second successive defeat in Division 3 of the A League when going down to visitors Kilmainham by six points at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Thursday evening July 7th.
Moynalvey 1-8 Kilmainham 0-17
The visitors were first to register on the score board when sending over in the 7th minute, however Moynalvey’s first score gave them a two point advantage, when Ken Hyland found the back of the net two minutes later; and within sixty seconds the advantage was furthered when Ray Ryan converted a free. This was as good as it got for the home side in the opening period as Kilmainham hit six points without reply. Ryan added a second converted free in the 24th minute, with Kilmainham tagging on a further score in the final minute of the half to leave the visitors 0-8 to 1-2 ahead at the interval.
After the break, Ryan clocked up his third score of the evening in response to a Kilmainham effort to keep Moynalvey in touch. A further four points in a row from Kilmainham left seven points between the sides with 12 minutes remaining. Moynalvey did manage to close the deficit to four points following another Ryan free and efforts from play from John Donoghue and Ken Hyland. With two minutes remaining, Kilmainham almost raised a green flag of their own, only to see a goal effort expertly finger tipped over the bar by Moynalvey keeper Ollie Regan. Both sides had goal chances in the remaining minutes denied by the woodwork, but both did add 0-2 apiece to their tallies, with Moynalvey’s efforts coming courtesy of points from substitute Ciaran Ennis and Ken Hyland, leaving the final score reading 0-17 to 1-8 in favour of Kilmainham.
