Moynalvey picked up their second win of the A League when defeating Dunderry at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Saturday evening May 6th.
Moynalvey 5-11
Dunderry 0-9
Following four defeats on the trot, Moynalvey picked up their first win since the opening round win over Rathkenny at the expense of Dunderry in this round seven tie.
Five goals, including four in the second half proved the difference in this first of a Moynalvey v Dunderry double header over the weekend.
Moynalvey led from throw in to the full-time whistle in this battle of two depleted squads.
Moynalvey took a two point lead early on and never looked back, leading 1-4 to 0-4 at half time with the goal coming from Ciaran Harnan.
The home side’s lead was extended to eight points six minutes after the restart with 1-1 from David McLoughlin and a brilliantly executed point from an acute angle from Stephen Donoghue, 2-6 to 0-4.
Dunderry fired over their fifth of the evening in the 42nd minute, but the wind was taken from their sails with another Moynalvey goal, Ciaran Harnan netting his second goal on the three-quarter hour mark, leaving it 3-6 to 0-5 with 15 minutes remaining.
A trio of Dunderry points with a McLoughlin effort sandwiched in between left it 3-7 to 0-8 with 52 minutes played.
Moynalvey then reeled off 2-4 without reply to put that extra bit of gloss on the winning score line. The goals coming from Brian Harnan and substitute Adam Rooney, with the four points from top scorer David McLoughlin.
A Stephen Coogan free for the visitors in the 63rd minute proved mere consolation, as Caoimhin King’s men picked up a much needed second win of the campaign to lift themselves off the base of the Div. 1B table and in the process leapfrog their opponents in the table.
Best for the winners here were Fearghal McCabe, Cathal McCabe, Ciaran Harnan and top scorer David McLoughlin.
Next up for Moynalvey is a round 8 home tie against high flying unbeaten Ballinabrackey on Tuesday evening.
