Second Half Scoring sees Donaghmore/Ashbourne pick up 2nd win

Donaghmore/Ashbourne outscored hosts Moynalvey 1-7 to 0-4 in the second half to pick up their second win of the Feis Cup campaign at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Wednesday 30th June.

Moynalvey 1-7
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-14

The game was evenly contested until the start of the second period when Donaghmore/Ashbourne went on to hit 1-5 without reply, with the home side going without a score between the 2nd and 23rd minutes of the second half.

Early on it was the visitors who were clocking up the scores racing into a three-point lead after eight minutes with points from Andrew Tormey, Stephen Carton and Darragh McGovern. Adam Murphy opened Moynalvey’s account in the 10th minute with a pointed free.

It was ten minutes before the next score came, a converted free from Stephen Carton. Within sixty seconds the sides were level for the first time when Ciaran Harnan fired past Ashbourne goalkeeper Jack Hannigan.

An excellent save from Moynalvey ‘keeper Chris O’Malley was followed by a Donaghmore/Ashbourne point from Dylan Brady, with Adam Murphy replying for the home side to tie matters up again 1-2 to 0-5 with 23 minutes played.

A David McLoughlin point put Moynalvey ahead for the first time but a brace of points from the visitors left them ahead by the minimum at half time, 0-7 to 1-3.

A pair of Adam Murphy points within ninety seconds of the restart had Moynalvey in front for just the second time.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne retook the lead with points from Simon Wilson and Conor Carton to leave it 0-9 to 1-5 three minutes into the second half.

Despite enjoying their fair share of possession Moynalvey would fail to trouble the score keeper again until the 53rd minute, with Donaghmore/Ashbourne pushing on to score 1-5 without reply essentially putting the game to bed.

Both sides added a pair of points apiece before the full-time whistle, Moynalvey’s brace coming from Adam Murphy frees with Donagmore/Ashbourne’s via Stephen Carton and James Crumlish.

With three games remaining, both sides now sit on four points in the Group A table. While Moynalvey now have two losses in succession following their two opening round wins, Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s faith has suffered the opposite fortunes picking up two wins from their last two outings following losses in their opening two games.

Next up for John Donoghue’s Moynalvey is a trip to Curraha next Wednesday 7th.
