Moynalvey and Moynalty played out an entertaining draw in this Junior ‘B’ Championship round three tie played at Martry on Saturday evening May 23rd.
Moynalvey 2-13 Moynalty 3-10
The first half of this contest was a low scoring affair with Moynalty holding a slight half time advantage on a 0-5 to 0-4 score line. Moynalty had two points on the score board before Moynalvey opened their account in the 4th minute when James Kelly pointed. Two minutes later a Ciaran Ennis free drew the sides level, Moynalvey’s remaining two first half points also came from Ennis frees.
The second half was a higher scoring contest which included five goals, the first of these coming within 30 seconds of the restart when Moynalty raised the game’s first green flag. Moynalvey points from James Kelly and Sean Duggan had the deficit back to two points after four minutes. James Kelly’s second point of the evening along with points from James Reilly and Fearghal McCabe in response to a brace of Moynalty points left the minimum between the sides on the three quarter hour mark, 1-7 to 0-9. Three unanswered points extended Moynalty’s advantage once again before Ciaran Ennis chipped over soccer style a loose ball in the 21st minute and within 30 seconds the sides were level for only the second time when James Kelly fired home Moynalvey’s first goal. Parity between the sides was short lived as a minute later Moynalty had the ball in the back of the Moynalvey net for a second time. Moynalty’s third goal arrived in the 55th minute handing them a six point advantage with just five minutes remaining. Moynalvey substitute player/manager Barry O’Keeffe split the uprights in the 58th minute and sixty seconds later Ennis blasted home from close range the game’s fifth goal. Two minute into injury time a point attempt was deflected over the crossbar by a Moynalty defender and then in the third minute of additional injury time Ennis stepped forward to convert a free meaning Moynalvey picked up their second point of the campaign following their earlier first round draw with Walterstown.
