Race Around Ireland – Support Console

Race_Around_IrelandOur own Barry O’Keeffe and his “Generali Lions” team mates have a tough task ahead of them – circumnavigating around Ireland for charity, in Barry’s case the nominated charity is Console. Starting at Trim Castle on Sunday afternoon September 15th, the annual race around Ireland is a race against the clock event set on a 2,158km course through all of Ireland’s coastal counties and ALL within four days, returning to finish in Navan a number of days later.

Race around Ireland is one of the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA) World Cup series which includes other huge endurance races such as The Race Across America. It has now become one of the most prestigious events on the Ultra-Cycling-World-Cup Calendar and is widely recognised as Europe’s most challenging endurance event.

With 11 solo racers and 9 teams is set to be a race to remember. Barry and his “Generali Lions” team mates are an amateur team and will be competing amongst professional cyclists, veterans of endurance cycle challenges and other amateur teams, with the cyclists on the road 24 hours a day until the finish line is crossed.

In order to raise much needed funds for Barry’s chosen charity Console, Barry is asking for your donations through mycharity.ie event page and help Console continue their invaluable work supporting people affected by suicide in Ireland.

Please take time to make a donation and support this very worthy cause!!!

All are welcome to come out and support them and cheer them as they leave Trim.  There will be Traditional music and entertainment to give them a great send off.

You can follow the progress of your favourite rider on the Race Around Ireland website once the race has started.  Each rider or team will be tracked all around the country, you will be able to check where they are, and what speed they are doing for the entire race.  Remember once the clock starts at the start line, it won’t stop until each rider reaches the finish line  in Navan.
