Contrasting fortunes for the two clubs in the championship first rounds, as Walterstown made it two wins from Intermediate and Premier championship outings with Moynalvey losing their Senior and Premier championship games.

Sixty seconds later Shaun Deering had the sides level for the first time before a pair of points from the lively full forward Mark Foy had Walterstown two points to the good, 0-4 to 0-2, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish for the remainder of the game.
The Blacks led 0-8 to 0-5 at half time, with Moynalvey’s other first half points coming from Sean Duggan, Evan Clarke and James O’Neill.
Soon after the restart John Geoghegan furthered Walterstown’s lead to four points, 0-9 to 0-5.
The introduction of William Harnan provided immediate dividends for Moynalvey as he fielded a high ball in to quickly lay off to Sean Duggan, who split the uprights to bring the deficit back to three points again.
All Moynalvey could muster from a large amount of possession was a further two Shaun Deering frees. An Adam Barrett free on the stroke of full time for Walterstown left them four point winners, 0-12 to 0-8.
