Dunshaughlin maintained their unbeaten start to the A league while condemning Moynalvey to their third defeat in this Div.1 game played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Sunday afternoon 24th February.
Moynalvey 2-7
Dunshaughlin 2-12
Having led by a goal at half time, Moynalvey could only muster a paltry one point return in the second half as the visitors outscored the home side 1-6 to 0-1 in the second half.
Moynalvey could not have got off to a better start with Ciaran Harnan finding the back of Adam McDermott’s net in the 2nd minute. Dunshaughlin’s opening score came three minutes later from the boot of midfielder Ronan Geraghty.
Two Moynalvey points within two minutes from Sean Duggan and James Weldon gave Moynalvey a four point advantage after nine minutes of play, 1-2 to 0-1. Dunshaughlin responded with 1-3 to take the lead for the first time mid-way through the half.
Moynalvey points from James Weldon and Stephen Donoghue brought the sides level again, 1-4 each after 21 minutes. A further brace from Weldon put the home side two points up with five minutes of the half remaining.
A Wesley Goodwin free followed by another Dunshaughlin point two minutes later left the sides level for a second time, 1-6 each. Just on the stroke of half time James Weldon flicked the ball over Adam McDermott for Moynalvey’s second goal, leaving that goal between the sides at half time, 2-6 to 1-6.
Whatever the Dunshaughlin management said to their players at the break certainly had the desired effect, as Matthew Costello goaled within sixty seconds of the restart and soon after they took the lead with a free, 2-7 to 2-6.
The second half was all black and amber as Dunshaughlin outscored Moynalvey 0-5 to 0-1 from here on, with Moynalvey’s sole second half point coming from a free almost on the stroke of half time.
Next up for Moynalvey in two weeks time is a visit to neighbours Summerhill, while Dunshaughlin take on Navan O’Mahony’s in the fifth round.
