Poor run in Div. 8 continues

Slane recorded their third win of the Div. 8 league when getting the better of visitors Moynalvey by sixteen points in this round five tie played in Toddy Harding Park Slane on Thursday evening May 8th.

Slane 4-13
Moynalvey 1-6

Last year’s two Div. 9 finalists met in round five of the K McKeown Carpentry and Home Improvements Div. 8 league at Slane on Thursday evening 8th May, whereby it was Slane who deservedly got the better of the visitors by on a 4-13 to 1-6 score line.

The first ten minutes were evenly contested with the score reading two points apiece after ten minutes. It was Moynalvey who opened the scoring in the third minute through Evan Drum, with the home side responding ninety seconds later with their first score. William Harnan put Moynalvey ahead in the 8th minute, with the home side once again responding two minutes later to leave it level, 0-2 apiece.

However, that was as good as it got for the men in maroon, as the home side reeled off 2-5 without reply before half time, the two goals coming just before referee Sean Kerley’s half time whistle, leaving the score 2-7 to 0-2 at half time.

Half Time Score:
Slane 2-7
Moynalvey 0-2

As if they weren’t already in the driving seat, Slane carried on where they left off in the first half, adding another 1-2 within the opening three minutes of the second half to effectively seal the win and the two points on offer.

An Evan Drum point for Moynalvey briefly interrupted Slane’s scoring run, but a further 1-2 for the home side left it a long final fifteen minutes to watch from a Moynalvey perspective as the men in blue held a 4-11 to 0-3 lead at the three quarter hour mark.

A James O’Neill free, followed by an opportunistic goal by Evan Drum when he pounced on a breaking ball to volley to the Slane net left it 4-11 to 1-4 with fifty two minutes played.

Over the final eight minutes the sides traded a pair of points apiece, Moynalvey’s coming from Evan Drum and a James O’Neill free with the last play of the game to leave Slane deserved 4-13 to 1-6 winners at the full time whistle.
