The final round group game in the Kepak Ladies Junior A Football Championship between Moynalvey and Dunsany played at Moynalvey on Saturday evening September 16th proved to be a one side affair.
Moynalvey 4-18
Dunsany 2-1
This game was essentially over after the first quarter as Moynalvey dominated from start to finish for a comprehensive win to qualify for the latter stages of the championship.
By the time Dunsany opened their account in the 23rd minute, home side Moynalvey had a 2-8 to 0-1 lead. Points coming from Sarah Kelly (3), Louise Donoghue (2), Olivia O’Halloran (2), Rachel Garrett and the goals coming from Ashling McLoughlin and Fia O’Brien.
By the time the half time whistle arrived Moynalvey had added another brace of points from Roisin Murphy and Sarah Kelly to hold a commanding 2-10 to 0-1 lead at the break.
Things didn’t get any easier for Dunsany after the break, as the home side rattled off 1-6 without reply with points from Rachel Garrett (2), Olivia O’Halloran, Sarah Kelly, Louise Donoghue and substitute Shíofra Deegan, with the goal coming from Clodagh Murphy.
Dunsany did raise a green flag of their own in the 43rd minute, but Moynalvey responded quickly with 1-2, points from Rachel Garrett and Olivia O’Halloran, with the goal somewhat fortuitous as a Louise Donoghue free made its way to the net.
Dunsany found the Moynalvey net for a second time in the 54th minute from the penalty spot and but for a brilliant reflex save from Moynalvey ‘keeper Aoibheann Corcoran two minutes later would have added another.
With qualification to the knockout stages guaranteed with this win, Moynalvey would surely have wished for a tougher encounter than this in preparation for the knockout stages.
Best for the winners in this comprehensive win were Abbie Killalea, Stephanie Walsh, Fia O’Brien, Olivia O’Halloran, Rachel Garrett and Sarah Kelly.
