Moynalvey/Boardsmill claimed Group G honours in the LMFM Minor Football Tournament with a facile 6-11 to 2-5 win over Drumconrath/Meath/Hill at a well presented Bohermeen pitch on May Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

Moynalvey/Boardsmill 6-11
Drumconrath/Meath/Hill 2-5

With the sides having played each other in the group stage, Moynalvey/Boardsmill turned that two point defeat to the same opposition a month ago around with this facile win in the final.

While the first half was a competitive affair, Moynalvey/Boardsmill pulled away with a dominant second half performance which yielded five goals including three in a seven minute period midway through the half which effectively killed the game off as a contest.

Early on it was level at two points apiece with eleven minutes played, Moynalvey’s opening two scores coming from Evan Drum frees.

The first of the game’s eight goals went the way of the North Meath combination from the penalty spot after Andrew Gallagher had saved the initial penalty, another penalty was awarded immediately afterwards when a Drumconrath/Meath/Hill attacker was fouled straight from the rebound, which they made no mistake at the second time of asking to lead 1-2 to 0-2 after thirteen minutes.

However, the penalty proved to be their last score of the half.
Moynalvey/Boardsmill then reeled off 1-6 without reply before Joseph Curran’s half time whistle. Points from David Regan, Cian Williams and Evan Drum (4), with a Cian Williams’ point attempt looping over the Drumcontrath/Meath Hill ‘keeper to give Moynalvey/Boardsmill a 1-8 to 1-2 half time lead.

Within ninety seconds of the restart Dylan Bannon found the net to extend the South Meath combination side lead further. Drumconrath/Meath Hill responded with a pair of points, one either side of another brilliant Andy Gallagher save to deny them a second goal.

4-2 for Moynalvey/Boardsmill without reply in the next fifteen minutes effectively killed the game off as a contest, the goals coming from Aaron McCabe, an Evan Drum penalty, Cian Williams and if things weren’t bad enough for Drumconrath/Meath Hill they conceded an own goal. The pair of points came from Darragh Purcell and Cian Williams to make it 6-9 to 1-4 with ten minutes remaining.

A Drumconrath/Meath Hill point and alate consolation goal either side of a Cian Williams point left the full time score 6-11 to 2-5.

After the game joint captains Evan drum and Jake Morgan accepted the cup from Minor County Board Committee Chairman Raymond Finnegan.

A brilliant all-round display from Moynalvey/Boardsmill with excellent performances from Jack Dunne, Jamie Ashe, Evan Drum, Cian Williams, Dylan Bannon, Darragh Purcell; but especially from the excellent Andrew Gallagher, Sam Dunne and David Regan.
