Moynalvey under 21 side fall at final hurdle

By promoynalvey Tue 21st Nov

In a game played in the most terrible conditions possible, Moynalvey fell at the final hurdle when defeated by a very good St Brigids team in the under 21 C Championship final played at Bohermeen.

Moynalvey 0 – 3 St Brigids 0 – 8

Playing with the slight favour of a diagonal breeze in the first half, Moynalvey stormed out of the blocks and were only denied a goal by a last gasp goal line clearance in the first minute. Points from James Weldon, Phillip Garvey and a monster effort from midfield powerhouse Paul Garvey meant Moynalvey held a 0 – 3 to 0 – 2 interval advantage. However, this one point lead was never going to be enough given the wind factor.

And so it proved as St Brigids used the elements in the second half and although it was only 0 – 4 to 0 – 3 with ten minutes left, Brigids tagged on four more points to secure a well deserved victory. No Moynalvey player could be faulted however as all gave 100% commitment in the dire conditions.

Overall, it has been a great year for underage football in Moynalvey, and with 8 of this under 21 panel still eligible for under 17 level and only 2 players not eligible for under 21 next year, the future looks bright.

Team & Scorers – B Reilly, A Brien, S Weston, A Donnelly, P Donoghue, D Smith, Paul Garvey (0 – 1), D Donoghue, C Farrelly, P Durnin, W Mahady, J Weldon (0 – 1), Phillip Garvey (0 – 1). Subs – J Duffy for Weston, TJ Lynch for Donnelly, F Cunningham for Farrelly, S Courtney for Weldon.
