Moynalvey scored a comfortable victory over Junior rivals Slane in this A league Division 3 game played in Moynalvey on Wednesday, July 23rd.
Moynalvey 2 – 11 Slane 1 – 6
Slane actually scored the first 2 points of this game but thereafter Moynalvey dominated for long spells. A Cathal Sheridan free and a point from play by the same player levelled the scores after 10 minutes. Moynalvey then stepped up another gear and points from David Donoghue and Mark O’Sullivan were quickly followed by a Robbie Quinlan goal after an excellent team move. Slane then pointed to leave the score at 1 – 4 to 0 – 3 after 20 minutes. 4 points were shared in the final 10 minutes of the half with Moynalvey’s scores coming from John Donoghue and Sheridan to leave the interval score at Moynalvey 1 – 6 Slane 0 – 5.
Moynalvey took control in the third quarter with points from David Donoghue and Sheridan (free) being followed by a John Donoghue goal. Further points from play by midfielders James Weldon and Brian Conneely were added to by another Sheridan free to leave the score with 10 minutes remaining at 2 – 11 to 0 – 5 in favour of the home side. Slane eventually got on the scoreboard with a pointed free and a converted penalty from Declan Kearns in the dying minutes left the final margin at 8 points.
This was a much improved display compared to recent league performances by Moynalvey who move back into the top 4 in the division, whilst for Slane relegation to Division 4 looms unless they can pick up some wins in their remaining games.
