A below strength Moynalvey side suffered a 5 point defeat to promotion chasing St Michaels in this A league Division 3 game played in Carlanstown on Sunday, October 12th.
St Michaels 2 – 7 Moynalvey 0 – 8
Moynalvey, who were already out of the race for promotion, started only 8 of the players from the recent Junior championship final victory, but despite this, they recovered from the concession of an early goal to lead by 0 – 5 to 1 – 1 as the half time whistle drew closer. However the concession of a further 1 – 1 in the minutes before the interval was to prove costly and the hosts led by 2 – 2 to 0 – 5 at the break, Moynalvey’s scores coming from Willie Byrne (3), Shane Reilly and David Donoghue.
The second half was a low scoring affair but St Michaels 5 points to Moynalvey’s 3 meant the hosts closed the game out for a deserved 5 point victory, and thus moving closer to clinching promotion to Division 2 for next season. Moynalvey’s second half scores came from Byrne, Reilly and substitute Ray Ryan.
