Moynalvey lost out to Nobber by seven points on a 2-12 to 0-11 score line in this Junior ‘B’ Football Championship round 2 tie played at Bective on Sunday afternoon April 26th.
Moynalvey 0-11 Nobber 2-12
As the saying goes it was “A game of two halves”, it was certainly true in this game, Nobber completely dominated the opening period, while it was Moynalvey’s turn in the second half. For a long time in the opening half it looked like Nobber would run away with this game as Moynalvey failed to score in the opening quarter, while their opponents hit 1-6 before Moynalvey opened their account in the 16th minute through James Kelly. Kelly also scored Moynalvey’s second point, converting a free in the 24th minute. Sean Duggan became Moynalvey’s only other first half scorer when pointing in the 30th minute, leaving Nobber 12 points to the good at the break on a 2-9 to 0-3 score line.
Within sixty seconds of the restart Nobber extended their advantage to 13 points when full forward Carl Casserly pointed. Nobber went through a 22 minute period without scoring as Moynalvey hit 0-8 without reply to narrow the gap to five points with nine minutes remaining. Of the eight points Ciaran Ennis sent over 0-5, three frees, a ’45 and a point from play, James Kelly scored a point, while substitute Robbie Kiernan accounted for the other two points. Points from Nobber’s Dale Larkin and Carl Casserly in the 53rd and 59th minutes respectively ensured Nobber repelled any hopes of a Moynalvey comeback to claim the two points on offer on a 2-12 to 0-11 score line.
