In a bottom of the table clash it was Moynalvey who came out five point winners to register their 1st victory of the 2013 JMB Sportsfield Services Division 2 B League at St. Lomans Park Trim on Monday evening May 27th.
Moynalvey 4-8 Trim 1-12
Moynalvey got off to the perfect start with a trio of Ray Ryan scores, the 1st a point from play, the 2nd a converted free and the third a goal, giving the visitors a five point lead after just 5 minutes. Trim pointed their opening score of the game in the 7th minute but two minutes later found themselves seven points in arrears when a Ray Ryan free hit the crossbar and ricocheted into the net off the Trim ‘keeper. A second Trim point was soon followed by a third Moynalvey goal from Conor Shirren. It seemed every Trim score was to be followed by a Moynalvey goal, as a third Trim point in the 17th minute was followed by a fourth Moynalvey goal from Eamonn McLoughlin 60 seconds later. Trim hit the final score of the half in response to a brace of Moynalvey points from Anthony Forde and Eamonn McLoughlin, leaving the score board reading 4-4 to 0-4 in favour of Moynalvey at the break.
Realising they had not played to their potential during the opening period Trim pressurised the Moynalvey defence consistently in the second period, outscoring their opponents 1-8 to 0-4. The home side hit three unanswered points in the first 6 minutes of the second half, which were followed by two Ray Ryan points, leaving the score line reading 4-6 to 0-7 after 40 minutes of play. Trim hit their one and only goal of the game in the 42nd minute, reducing the margin between the sides to eight points. A minute later the deficit could have been narrowed further only for a penalty for the home side was sent wide of the posts. Trim did narrow the deficit to six points with two points in as many minutes in the 57th and 58th minutes. A Moynalvey point from wing forward David Durkan was followed by a hat trick of Trim points, leaving only four points between the sides with three minutes remaining. Thankfully time ran out for Trim’s revival and Moynalvey held out for a five point win with Cathal McCabe sending over the final score of the game, leaving Moynalvey five point winners on a 4-8 to 1-12 score line.
