St. Pats started best into the breeze and went 1 – 1 up before the outstanding Mark O’Sullivan opened Moynalvey’s account with a long range point from play and a free. St. Pats then ended another free flowing move with a goal to put them firmly in control. Points from O’Sullivan, William Harnan and William Mahady brought Moynalvey back in touch before the former raced through for a superb goal. With Harnan and Mahady on top in midfield the visitors finished the half with a flourish. Points from O’Sullivan and Mahady were followed by goals from Darren Brennan, Harnan and O’Sullivan to give them a 4 – 7 to 2 – 2 half-time lead.
St. Pats started the second half with real purpose and five points in succession had them right back in contention. With Moynalvey under pressure their backs defended excellently, with Shane Browne, Sean Carroll, Luke Duffy and substitute Anthony Ford to the fore, and the pressure was relieved with points from play and a free from Mark O’Sullivan at the other end. An excellent point from play from Shane McGann rounded off the scoring for the visitors.
