Having picked up five points from their last available six on offer, it looks like a case of too little too late for Moynalvey in their late bid to avoid the relegation semi-finals.

In an evening whereby a tricky cross field wind proved scores from play hard to come by with fourteen of the game’s twenty six scores coming from placed balls, with both teams failing to fully utilize the winds at their back when they had the advantage.

One man who seemed to judge the wind to perfection was the game’s top scorer David McLoughlin, with a personal tally of ten points for the Moynalvey sharp shooter, sending over seven from placed balls and three from play within the hour.

It was indeed McLoughlin who opened the scoring from a ’45 in the second minute after a Padraic Harnan drive at goal was deflected behind, the first of McLoughlin’s four brilliantly struck points off the ground.A minute later, Cillian O’Sullivan making his second league start for the men in maroon after his county commitments made it two points to no score.

Darren Brennan finished past Mark McCormack in the Walterstown nets for the game’s first goal in the 6th minute, leaving it 1-2 to 0-0.

Walterstown midfielder Conor McEntee opened his side’s scoring with a point in the 11th minute and two minutes later just a point separated the sides when a brilliant individual run from Fionnan O’Connor saw him finish past Moynalvey ‘keeper Conor Egan, making it 1-2 to 1-1 with thirteen minutes gone.

Points for David McLoughlin and Cillian O’Sullivan either side of another McEntee effort for the Blacks left it 1-4 to 1-2 to the home side with twenty minutes played.
Then a quick-fire brace of Walterstown points within thirty seconds drew the sides level for the only time, 1-4 apiece.

Four unanswered Moynalvey points from McLoughlin (3) and Padraic Harnan left it 1-8 to 1-4 heading for the break, with a Walterstown free rounding off the first half scoring to leave three between the sides at half time, 1-8 to 1-5.

Moynalvey extended their lead out to five within five minutes of the restart with a pair of David McLoughlin points, the first from play and the second a free.
However, the visitors were unlucky not to score a goal when a Neil McGinley shot had Moynalvey ‘keeper Conor Egan beaten only to see his effort rebound off the butt of the upright.

A brace of Walterstown frees from Fionnan O’Connor and McGinley reduced the deficit back to a kick of the ball with ten minutes of the second half played, 1-10 to 1-7.

David McLoughlin (2) and Neil McGinley traded frees to leave four between the sides midway through the second half, 1-12 to 1-8.

Walterstown did manage to narrow the deficit to two points following points from Fionnan O’Connor and Neil McGinley to leave it 1-12 to 1-10 with seven minutes remaining.

However, Moynalvey added two further points from Cillian O’Sullivan and David McLoughlin to secure Caoimhin King’s side their third win of the league campaign on a full time score of 1-14 to 1-10.

Next up for Moynalvey is a final round game at home to Syddan on Saturday evening July 6th.
