Moynalvey secured top spot in Group C and set up a quarter final date with Kilbride after a comfortable victory over Curraha in this Junior A championship game played in Dunganny on Wednesday August 20th.
Moynalvey 1 – 15 Curraha 0 – 7
Moynalvey took a while to settle but once opening the scoring through PJ Walsh in the eight minute, the men in maroon never trailed. Further points from James Weldon, Walsh (2) and Cathal Sheridan (3 including 2 frees) had Moynalvey 0 – 7 to 0 – 2 clear at the interval, Curraha’s two scores having come from frees.
Moynalvey took further control after the the break and a string of points from Walsh, Mark O’Sullivan and Sheridan (3 including 2 frees) left the scoreline at 0 – 12 to 0 – 4 with 15 minutes remaining. Curraha had a good goal chance denied through a fine save by keeper Ollie Regan and soon after Willie Byrne crashed the ball to the Curraha net to leave Moynalvey 11 points clear on a scoreline of 1 – 12 to 0 – 4.
Moynalvey stretched their lead further through points from Shane Reilly and Ray Ryan but in fairness to Curraha they kept battling and scored 3 of the last 4 points, Moynalvey’s score a point from play by Sheridan, to leave the final margin at 11 points.
Moynalvey now move on to the last eight where they will be up against a strong Kilbride team for a place in the semi finals.
