Moynalvey recorded their first Division 2 A League win of 2013 against Walterstown on a 1-6 to 0-5 score line at Dunganny on Sunday morning March 31st.
Moynalvey 1-6 Walterstown 0-5
In a prep run of the meeting of the two teams later in the year in the Senior Championship, it was Moynalvey who came out four points winners in this Division 2 A League round four fixture.
The blacks opened the scoring as early as the first minute when full forward Alban Crosbie pointed from play, before Moynalvey opened their account in the 6th minute when midfielder John Donoghue split the posts. In the 11th minute William Harnan fired over to give Moynalvey the lead. The sides were level for the second and final time when Ruairi O’Dowd sent over Walterstown’s second point of the game in the 13th minute. Moynalvey’s roving corner forward Anthony Forde pointed on the quarter hour mark, pushing Moynalvey a point ahead, a lead they weren’t to relinquish. Moynalvey full forward William Harnan registered his second point of the game in the 21st minute, with the blacks Alban Crosbie replying five minutes later with a converted free. Just before the break, a sweeping move up the field saw Moynalvey’s Paul Weldon send a rasping effort at goal only to see it rebound off the crossbar. The ball was recycled back out to Darren Brennan who sent over, giving Moynalvey a two point interval lead on a 0-5 to 0-3 score line.
Five minutes into the second half Moynalvey received the perfect boost when Ciaran Ennis was fouled close to goal resulting in a penalty, which James Weldon coolly dispatched to the back of the net, giving Moynalvey a five point lead. Following a minor shemozzle in the 45th minute both sides had a man dismissed resulting in the game finishing with 14 men apiece. It was the 56th minute before the second score of the half arrived, when Moynalvey substitute Luke Duffy pointed. The final few minutes saw Walterstown add a brace of points, which were merely consolation scores at this stage, leaving Moynalvey run out four point winners on a 1-6 to 0-5 score line at the final whistle.
Best for the winners were Padraic Harnan, Paul Weldon, Mark O’Sullivan, John Donoghue and Anthony Forde.
