A superb second half performance paved the way for Moynalvey to capture the Division 2 league title after a comprehensive victory over Walterstown in Summerhill on Wednesday evening, April 30th.
Moynalvey 3 – 10 Walterstown 0 – 3
The first half was a tight affair with a goal after a powerful run through the centre by Padraig Harnan being the main difference as Moynalvey led by 1 – 5 to 0 – 3 at the interval. Moynalvey’s points came from Eric Ryan, Harnan, Eamonn Walsh and Cillian O’Sullivan (2).
The second half was a totally different story however as Moynalvey made full use of the slight wind advantage and gradually wore down their opponents to emerge with a convincing victory. A spectacular 25 yard goal off the crossbar from O’Sullivan and a further 3 pointer from Eric Ryan sealed the victory along with a string of points from Harnan (3), Ryan and O’Sullivan.
Captain Cillian O’Sullivan accepted the cup on behalf of the team from the county board and this team has now made history in that they are the first from the club to win competitions at all 3 juvenile grades (under 12, 13 & 14). Well done to all concerned on a fantastic achievement and best of luck to the team in the upcoming championship and Leinster Feile.
