Moynalvey were caught at the death as they went down to St. Patricks by a solitary point in the final of Division 3 of the minor league last Sunday May 9th.
Moynalvey 5-4 St. Patricks 1-17
The opening period was a tit for tat affair as the sides were level 1-3 apiece in the 17th minute, with Moynalvey’s scores coming from Darren Brennan, Cillian O’Sullivan and 1-1 from James Kelly. Pat’s tagged on another two points before the Moynalvey attack exploded into goal scoring form with Cillian O’Sullivan raising a second green flag in the 22nd minute and four minutes later corner back Cathal McCabe surged up the field to add a third for the maroon & white side. St. Patricks kicked the final score of the half leaving Moynalvey ahead by three points at the break on a score line of 3-3 to 1-9.
St Patricks narrowed the deficit to two, before O’Sullivan tagged on a free for Moynalvey after James Kelly had been fouled. Two minutes later Moynalvey raised their fourth green flag of the afternoon when Cian Gorman excellently dispatched a penalty to the back of the net. Although Gorman once again found the net 15 minutes later, Moynalvey never fully recovered from the loss of James Kelly to injury in the 39th minute, as their opponents levelled matters up in the dying seconds of normal time. St. Patricks scored the winning point two minutes into additional injury time completing a six point turnaround.
Although a heart breaking defeat, Moynalvey will now turn their attentions to the upcoming minor championship. Moynalvey’s best performers on the day were Cathal McCabe, Darren Brennan, Anthony Forde & Cillian O’Sullivan.
