Letter From Co. Board RE: Championship Matches in May

By promoynalvey Tue 3rd May

A Chairde, CCC An Mhí have decided on a change to the Planner and will now play 1 round of Football Championship in May. (Round 2).

Following  a detailed study of the present planner, representation from a number of bodies namely Coiste Fe 18 & Meath Senior Football team Management representation from Clubs to the CCC in regard to 2nd & 3rd level exams and the fact that certain Clubs could be out of their Championships by 1st June and remembering that both the Christy Ring Competition and the Leinster Junior Football Championship all have major activity in May.

The main point that kept coming up with Clubs was “Is it right to be out of Football Championship before the end of May ?”

The problem has arisen by the early start to the Christy Ring and which led to playing only 1 round in April. It seemed at the time that the 3rd round could be played in May but all the above has led the CCC to make this decision.

The schedule from W/E 15th May will now be

Round 2 SFC/IFC and some JFC and JBFC games not involving Meath Minor panelists. (No change)

W/E 22nd May Round 7 A Leagues

W/E 29th May remainder of Round 2 Junior Football Championships/Round 8 of A Leagues and/or Knock Out Football Quarter Finals.

B and Reserve Leagues will now be in general played on Week Evenings as Light now allows.

In previous years we have had 3 weeks between some Semi finals and Finals. Our overall plan this year had 4 weeks gap and we are confident our Championship’s will be ran off in good time with regard to Leinster Competitions.

There is no planned Championship free period this year this also is a safe guard but will only be used if deemed to be necessary.

A Fixture Planner will be released in Early May which will cover to months June/July and Early August
