The final round of the Div. 1B A League between Navan O’Mahonys and Moynalvey proved to be a non-contest as it was one way traffic for the home side at Brews Hill on Tuesday evening 20th June.
Navan O’Mahonys 5-21
Moynalvey 0-6
A dead rubber game in the sense that Navan O’Mahonys had already topped the group to progress to a league final and Moynalvey were safe before this game threw in.
If Moynalvey weren’t already depleted enough, they most certainly were for this last round contest with absentees through injury, holidays and wedding preparations resulting in a much-weakened Moynalvey side starting the game with just 14 players.
Stats man Aidan Gilsenan grabbed the boots and salvaged a pair of shorts to make it 15 a side mid-way through the first half, with Stephen Donoghue arriving soon after to replace Paul Corcoran at half time.
By the time Darragh Branigan registered Moynalvey’s sole first half point in the 23rd minute Navan O’Mahonys already had the two points on offer well and truly sewn up at that stage, leading 0-10 to 0-1.
The half time score board read 2-15 to 0-1.
O’Mahonys ran out comprehensive winners on a 5-21 to 0-6 score line in what was nothing more than a shooting practice session for them in this non-contest.
Moynalvey did add a further five second half points to their paltry six point tally from Vinny Walsh (3), Craig Gilsenan and Conor Quinn.
