Coiste na Mí C.L.G. has decided to hold a 1916 Commemorative event on our County Final day on Sunday, October 30th 2016 in Páirc Tailteann. Moynalvey’s representatives on the day will be Darren Brennan & Aideen Smith.
The event, (Laochra na Mí), will take place prior to the Senior Football final and will honour the Meath men who participated in the Easter Rising, especially the four who died, Thomas Allen, Philip Clarke, James Fox and James McCormack. It will consist of the following: –
1) Parade of Clubs.
This will be a parade of representatives of each club in the county: Football, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football and Handball.
The flag of each club will be supplied and will be carried by the captain of the most Senior team in each club, (or his/her representative).
Each participant will be fully togged out in his/her club colours, in match day attire.
Assembly will be at the Navan O’Mahony’s clubhouse no later than 1.00 pm. (Dressing rooms available).
The Parade will also include members of the Battle of Ashbourne Re-enactment Group.
The Parade will commence at 1.45 p.m.
2) Unveiling of Plaque in memory of those who died.
3) Reading of Proclamation.
4) Laying of Wreath.
5. The County Final match programme will include a special ‘Laochra na Mí’ supplement detailing the involvement of Meath men in the Easter Rising while also reflecting on the GAA in Meath in that era.
All clubs are earnestly requested to participate and to co-operate fully with the Parade Stewards, especially in terms of punctuality, attire and parade order.
