Ladies lose to Trim in Junior ‘A’ FC Round 2

Trim inflicted a second defeat on Moynalvey Ladies in the Kepak Junior ‘A’ football
championship in this round two game played in St. Lomans Park Trim on Wednesday
evening August 20th.

Trim 1-11
Moynalvey 1-8

Having found themselves staring into a seven point deficit after twenty five minutes a spirited
second half display from the ladies in maroon saw them draw matters level twice in the
second half, but they couldn’t head the home side who pulled away in the final five minutes
for a three point win.

It was the town side who started better with three points on the score board before
Moynalvey opened their account in the 9th minute when a Shiofra Deegan point attempt
bounced over the crossbar with assistance of the palm of the Trim ‘keeper.

Trim raised the game’s first green flag of the game in the 10th minute, a rasping shot saved
initially by Moynalvey goalkeeper Aoibheann Corcoran but was left with no chance with the
rebound, making it 1-3 to 0-1 with ten minutes gone.

Moynalvey’s top scorer Deegan sent over her second of the evening in the 11th minute, but
three Trim points on the spin left Moynalvey facing into that seven point deficit, 1-6 to 0-2,
with six minutes of the opening half remaining.

Three Moynalvey points of their own before the half time whistle, frees from Aoibheann
Corcoran and Shiofra Deegan and a Jennifer McLoughlin effort from play left the half time
score board read 1-6 to 0-5 in favour of the host side.

Half Time Score:
Trim 1-06
Moynalvey 0-05

Shiofra Deegan opened the second half scoring with a free, which was countered by a Trim
free ninety seconds later. Moynalvey’s Clodagh Murphy pointed to leave a goal between the
sides and two minutes later the sides were level when Shiofra Deegan fired home to the Trim
net to make it 1-7 apiece.

Trim took the lead again with a free, but the sides were level for a second time, 1-8 apiece,
when Clodagh Murphy pointed.

However, it was Trim who finished the game stronger with a further three points in the last
five minutes to secure the win and three points on offer.

Next up for Moynalvey is a round three encounter at home against Clann nan Gael on
Thursday 28th August.
