Moynalvey ladies opened their Kepak Junior ‘A’ Championship with defeat to visitors St. Patricks at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Wednesday evening August 14th.
𝗠𝗼𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝟭-𝟴
𝗦𝘁. 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝟮-𝟭𝟭
Last year’s Junior A Finalists got off to the perfect start here, having 1-1 on the score board within the opening four minutes, both scores coming from full forward Jennifer McLoughlin, the goal coming from the penalty spot after McLoughlin dusted herself off to convert after taking a heavy hit and the point coming from a free.
St. Patricks opening two scores were also a goal and a point to level matters at 1-1 apiece with eight minutes gone.
St. Patricks then took the lead for the first time with a converted free and two minutes later raised their second green flag when the rebound off an excellent Aoibheann Corcoran save fell to another Pats attacker to finish to the net, leaving it double scores 2-2 to 1-1, midway through the opening half.
A trio of Moynalvey points from Jennifer McLoughlin (2) and Olivia O’Halloran had the deficit back to a single score game, 2-2 to 1-4, after eighteen minutes.
A rasping Jennifer McLoughlin effort at goal was brilliantly saved by the St. Patricks ‘keeper, before the Stamullen side counter attacked to send over two points within as many minutes to leave a goal between the sides, 2-4 to 1-4.
Olivia O’Halloran fired over her second of the evening on the stroke of half time to leave the score board read 2-4 to 1-5 at the break.

An Emma Thornton point within a minute of the restart left just a point between the sides once again, however try as they did Moynalvey failed to reel their opponents in throughout the second half.
The visitors went on to dominate the second half scoring, outscoring Moynalvey six points to two over the remainder of the half, Moynalvey’s other second half points a Jennifer McLoughlin brace, leaving the full time score line read 2-11 to 1-8 in favour of St. Patricks.
Best for Moynalvey here were Aoibheann Corcoran who pulled off numerous outstanding saves throughout, Abbie Killalea, Aoife Weston, Olivia O’Halloran and top scorer Jennifer McLoughlin.
Next up for Moynalvey is a second round tie away to Moylagh.
