Moynalvey progressed to the the final of the Junior ‘C’ Football Championship with a 3-11 to 0-10 victory over Oldcastle at Athboy on Sunday evening August 28th.

Oldcastle were first to open the scoring, pointing in the opening minute, before Moynalvey registered 1-1 courtesy of a Padraic Harnan point and a Ciaran Ennis penalty after Johnny Carey was fouled. Donal Smith opened his account in the 6th minute, stretching Moynalvey’s lead to four points. Peter Durnin pointed, along with an Ennis free furthered Moynalvey’s advantage to five points midway through the opening period. Three minutes later Padraic Harnan burst through to expertly dispatch to the back of the net, raising Moynalvey’s second green flag of the evening. Five minutes later Moynalvey and Ennis saw their second penalty attempt of the evening saved, before Ennis clipped over the bar after a surging run forward by Padraic Harnan. Oldcastle posted another effort before the break to leave the half time score reading 2-5 to 0-3 in favour of Moynalvey.
After the restart Moynalvey hit a further 1-4 without reply to effectively seal the win, with points courtesy of Ennis (’45, free, and effort from play) and a Peter Durnin goal. Oldcastle endured their purple patch when clocking up four points on the spin, to leave the scores 3-9 to 0-7 with seven minutes remaining. Moynalvey added a further point in the remaining 10 minutes in response to a further three points from the North Meath outfit, to see Moynalvey run out winners on a 3-11 to 0-10 score line.
