Moynalvey completed their 2006 Junior A campaign with a draw against Boardsmill on Sunday evening, September 3rd at Longwood.
Moynalvey 1 – 9 Boardsmill 0 – 12
Boardsmill started brightest and led by two points to no score after ten minutes. However, a well taken goal by Cathal Sheridan and three points from PJ Walsh, Sheridan and Willie Byrne meant Moynalvey led by 1 – 3 to 0 – 3 at the interval.
The second half was tit for tat with Boardsmill pulling closer through a number of well taken long range frees. Moynalvey had only fifteen players togged out for this fixture and the loss of Stephen Donoghue to injury for a ten minute spell midway through the second half meant Boardsmill eventually took a one point lead into the final minutes. It was left to Brian Gilsenan to kick a magnificent equaliser to ensure a well deserved share of the spoils.
It was a good team performance by a very stetched squad. The result means Moynalvey finished fourth out of eight places in Group A of the Junior A championship, one place out of the qualification spots in what has been a very disappointing campaign.
