In an effort to increase attendances at Blood Donor Clinics in County Meath the Irish Blood Transfusion Service are now requesting Meath G.A.A to support this essential service, whether you are a player, a mentor or a supporter to show your support by attending your nearest local Meath Blood Donor Clinic.
We need Donors to donate blood now to enable us to have sufficient blood stocks especially into the October Bank Holiday period, Christmas and the New Year. You may not be aware that blood only lasts 35 days. At this time of year, your support is even more important as traditionally we have a higher demand for blood.
Some Statistics – A total of 51,513 Donors were called to attend our Meath clinics for the period January to September 2011. This figures has drastically dropped to 49,361 to date, a loss of 2,152. 1 in 4 people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives, but less than 6% of those eligible to donate do so. We need 3,000 donations every week to supply Irish hospitals to help save lives.
Being a Blood Donor is very special. Those who make a commitment and become a regular Blood Donor, giving the gift of life to so many, deserve our thanks. We are inviting people who are between the age of 18 and 60 years (67 if you are a regular donor) over 7st 12lbs (50kg) in weight, who are fit and healthy and who have not donated in the past 90 days to come along to any of our Meath Clinics (Navan, Ashbourne, Trim, Bettystown, Dunboyne, Kells, Dunshaughlin, Oldcastle, Slane, Athboy) further clinic information is on www.giveblood.ie, you can follow us on facebook.com/ giveblood or on twitter @give_blood.ie.
